BOB Hits The Road

Sonora, CA — It´s official … BOB has hit the road.

BOB, or “Be On Board,” is a school health center on wheels that will be making stops at five Tuolumne County schools between now and the end of the calendar year. By the end of the school year BOB will be visiting all county schools.

BOB will provide students who do not currently have health care asthma screening, glucose testing, blood pressure testing, medication screening and nutritional counciling. BOB will also be used as an educational device to train students in health care.

BOB is a white van that will be displayed with colorful graphics next month. Funding for the van is provided by the Sonora Area Foundation and the Irving J. Symons Foundation.

County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp contends BOB is a joint effort and would not be possible without the support of the County Health Office, Sonora Regional Medical Center, the county´s Behavioral Health Department, the Office of Education and the Sheriff´s Department.

It was Summerville Elementary student Jessica Myers who came up with the name BOB. It was then determined that BOB should stand for “Be On Board.”
