Tuolumne River Trust Set For Sonora Meeting

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Opera Hall will host what could evolve into a heated discussion regarding the proposed diversion of an additional 25 million gallons of water per day from the Tuolumne River for San Francisco interests.

Embedded in the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission´s $4.3 billion plan to upgrade and expand the Hetch Hetchy water system is a proposal to increase diversions from the Tuolumne River in Yosemite National Park.

The proposal has recently drawn criticism from the Tuolumne River Trust which has released a new report which presents overwhelming evidence that San Francisco´s water supply proposal is unfounded and unnecessary. The report exposes waste and missed opportunities to promote a sustainable water plan for the Bay Area. In addition the report identifies ways in which the Tuolumne River can be protected.

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission´s public hearing will start at 6:30 this evening at the Opera Hall.
