Firefighter Numbers Reduced At Dome Fire

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — According to Stanislaus National Forest Spokesman Pat Kaunert, only 114 firefighters remain on the 75 acre Dome Fire currently burning in a rugged, remote area of the Stanislaus National Forest.

The fire is located approximately one-and-a-half miles southwest of the Salt Springs Reservoir and 13 miles northeast of Dorrington.

Shortly after the fire was initially reported Friday afternoon at 3:35 over 700 firefighters were fully involved. By early Sunday evening that number had been reduced to 200. Containment remains estimated at 80 percent.

In addition to the 114 firefighters, resources include two helicopters, three water tenders, five fire engines, four hand crews and additional supervisory overhead and support personnel.

No structures or local residents have been in any danger during the course of the fire. Cause of the blaze remains under investigation at this time.
