Firefighters Gaining Control Of Dome Fire

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Firefighters continue to make excellent progress in battling the 75 acre Dome Fire burning in a rugged, remote area of the Stanislaus National Forest.

Spokesman Pat Kaunert of the U.S. Forest Service is estimating containment at 80 percent. Drift smoke is clearly visible in the early morning and evening hours.

At one time more than 700 firefighters were on the lines, but that number has now been reduced to approximately 200. Other resources being utilized include two helicopters, three water tenders, two dozers, five fire engines, 11 hand crews and 10 supervisory overhead and support personnel.

The fire is located approximately one-and-a-half miles southwest of the Salt Springs Reservoir and 13 miles northeast of Dorrington. The fire was initially reported Friday afternoon at 3:35.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
