Ambulance Tax May Go Up In Don Pedro And South County Districts

Sonora, Ca — In November, voters will be asked whether to approve an ambulance tax increase in both the Don Pedro and South County districts.

The Board of Supervisors made a decision at today´s meeting to place the issue on the General Election ballot.

If approved, the tax on improved lots in South County would increase from $50 to $75 over the first five years. The tax would then jump to $100 for years six through 10. For unimproved lots, the current $10 tax would increase to $40 over the first five years, and then jump to $50 for years six through 10. Commercial lots would go from $50 to $250 for the first five years, and then increase to $500 during the following five years.

In Don Pedro, unimproved and non-residential land would remain at $10 for years one through five. It would then increase to $25 for years five through ten. Improved residential land would stay at $50 over the first five years, increasing to $75 over the following five years. Commercial land would increase from $50 to $75 over the first five years, and then increase to $100 for years six through 10.

The purpose of the tax increase would be to ensure quick response times for ambulance services. Included in the measure is that the Board of Supervisors would look to offset the taxes if the Board is able to find additional funding.
