Bomb Scare Hits Jackson

Sponsored by:

Jackson, CA — Thanks to a bomb scare it was anything but a normal Thursday afternoon in Jackson.

According to the Amador Ledger Dispatch a senior citizen from the Ione area told police that a neighbor had told him about a suspicious package. The elderly gentleman then placed the package in his car and drove into town delivering it to the Jackson Police Department.

Chief Scott Morrison immediately contacted the bomb squad form the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department. Special Operations Director Clay Hawkins told KVML News the device was not a conventional pipe bomb per se but an improvised device with explosives and an initiator.

The device was sucessfully detonated by the bomb squad with no injuries or property damage reported.

The Police Department and the Highway Patrol had literally shut down the downtown area evacuating all of the nearby businesses and residences.

Hawkins added that it´s not at all uncommon for his unit to discover and disarm these types of explosive devices.
