Local CAL FIRE Firefighters Injured In Weekend Blaze

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — At approximately 3:30 Saturday afternoon, three Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit firefighters were injured while on the fire line of the Inyo Complex fire near Independence.

The firefighters were part of two engines working together. Five firefighters were on one engine while four were on the other when the situation became critical.

The firefighters deployed their fire shelters until the fire subsided sufficiently for them to escape.

Three firefighters sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Fresno Burn Center by helicopter. The remaining six were not injured. The names of those involved in the incident have not been released by CAL FIRE officials.

One of the engines was completely destroyed. The other was driven from the scene. The burn incident is currently under investigation.
