Sonora Family Shelter Prepares For Cold Weather

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Family Shelter will be staffed around the clock this weekend to assist anyone who needs assistance with sheltering or staying warm.

If interested, they do ask that you contact them first, by calling 694-8698.

Maureen Frank with Tuolumne County Emergency Services says there are other things people can do to make sure people at risk stay safe. Frank says, ”If you have a neighbor that´s elderly or homebound, check on them and make sure they are okay.”

Also, Frank says sometimes families try to save money, and heat their households in a way that increases the risk of fire or carbon monoxide poisoning.

Frank notes that A-TCAA has a program to help low income individuals maintain a safe and healthy home. The organization has emergency space heaters and extra equipment to assist households. You need to call 533-1397 by today, because the office is not open on weekends.

For more information on staying safe, Frank recommends you click on www.infonettc.com or www.csd.ca.gov

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Mother Lode from midnight tonight through Sunday morning.
