Budget Impasse May Come To An End

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — There may be a settlement on the budget very late this evening or even early tomorrow morning.

Legislators are scheduled to go into session at four o´clock this afternoon and we are told by Assemblyman Tom Berryhill´s office that it could be a very long evening before a vote is taken on a Democaratic proposal that does not increase taxes and and at the same time closes the $15.2 billion deficit. Part of the plan calls for $9 billion in cuts.

Senate Pro Tem Leader Don Perata of Oakland has been quoted by the Associated Press as stating that, “I´m 100 percent sure we have a deal here.”

The Republicans have demanded no new taxes including the Democrats´ proposed one cent sales tax increase.

California is now in its 77th day without a new fiscal budget.
