North Mountain And Oliver Fires Reach 75 Percent Containment

Sponsored by:

Groveland & Mariposa County, CA — Both the North Mountain and Oliver fires have reached 75 percent containment effective this morning.

The North Mountain Fire in the Cherry Creek Drainage was only 50 percent contained Tuesday and still no definitive date for 100 percent containment had been issued by the Incident Commander. Now 100 percent containment is scheduled for tomorrow.

Progress is being made at such a rapid pace that a number of resources are being moved to other northern California fires. One additional injury has been reported resulting from a runin with poison oak.

Public Affairs Officer Dennis Cross is expecting four Marine “water dropping” helicopters to arrive during the eleven o´clock hour this morning to aid in the fight against this 2,711 acre fire.

In Mariposa County, the Oliver Fire has reached 75 percent containment with full containment still scheduled for Saturday. Public Affairs Officer Craig Tolmie states there are still some interior islands of fuels that are burning out as the weather continues to dry.

As of six o´clock this evening the evacuation warning for the Ponderosa Basin area will be lifted.

With the increasing degree of containment a number of resources are currently being moved to other California hot spots.
