Winter Storm Watch Headed For The Mother Lode

Sacramento, CA — No doubt the Sierra Nevada needs a major snowpack this winter and according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a blast is on its way to open the new year.

An intense low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska will push several storms into the interior of northern California and the Mother Lode over the next couple of days.

The first storm will arrive tomorrow evening with a predicted two feet of snow above 7,000 feet. Snow levels will drop to between 4,000 to 5,000 feet Thursday evening along with an inch of rain in the valley.

The second and more powerful storm will move inland Friday evening bringing two to four feet of snow to the higher elevations and an expected two to four inches of rain to the valley. Combined with this storm; 60 mph winds in the valley and 80 mph winds in the higher Sierra Nevada passes. Five to 10 feet of snow are predicted for the greater Lake Tahoe region.

Still another storm is expected to invade the Mother Lode Sunday.
