Immediate Upgrades Needed For Sheriff’s Department

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — According to an outside consulting firm, the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department needs several immediate upgrades.

The firm found the department to be deficient in the number of patrol deputies given the size of the county. In addition the firm stated that a technology upgrade has to be considered a top priority.

According to Captain Jim Macedo the department will present these findings to the Board of Supervisors in the very near future with the hope that additional funding can be allocated to meet these needs.

The firm found that at least one additional “beat” (with the appropriated number of officers for 24 hour coverage) needs to be added to ensure adequate coverage for the county.

At the present time non-emergency response time, according to Macedo, is 33 minutes. He would like to see that figure reduced to at least 12 minutes.

The firm stated that the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department badly trails the Tuolumne and Amador departments in number of patrol deputies and the use of updated technology. At the current time deputies cannot access a state data base to check on wants and warrants for individuals who have been contacted.
