California Forward Seeks To Serve The Public Interest

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — California Forward arrived on the horizon Wednesday in Sacramento.

The purpose of the non-partisan group is to find common solutions to the structural problems that are reducing the government´s ability to make sound fiscal choices and establish effective programs needed for communities to be safe, healthy and prosperous in a global and knowledge-based economy.

Foundations backing California Forward with an initial three year investment of $15.9 million for the 501(c3) non-profit include the James Irvine Foundation, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the David and Lucille Packard Foundation, the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund and the California Endowment. Still another backer

California Forward will also form a separate political 501(c4) fund to make its voice heard on the vital issues facing the state.

California Forward´s fiscal work will begin by working with state and regional leaders over the next nine months to develop new budget-making tools that could lead to better long-term fiscal management, improved results in the quality and efficiency of programs and greater understanding and accountability regarding public expenditures.

The initial priorities; improving basic fiscal decision making and turning legislative redistricting over to an independent citizen´s commission.

According to Spokesperson Ryan Rauzon, if the recommendations of California Forward are not implemented by the legislature, initiatives will be formulated for a public vote.
