Cal Osha Investigation Continues Into Collapse Of YoYo Ride

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, Ca — CAL Osha is continuing an investigation into the collapse of the YoYo ride Friday evening at the Calaveras County Fair.

“The one thing that we do know is that it was a mechanical failure, but we don´t know the specific cause,” says spokesperson Kate McGuire. “Typically it takes two to three months to complete one of our investigations.”

McGuire says the operator of the ride has had two less severe accidents in the past, both in 2002. The Skywheel ride was started prematurely, leading to a boy breaking both wrists at the Stanislaus County Fair. A boy also broke his wrist when the Zipper ride was out of balance and needed a brake adjustment at the Tehama County Fair.

23 were injured when the YoYo ride collapsed shortly after 6pm Friday. All of the injured have been released from regional hospitals.
