North Mountain And Oliver Fire Updates

Sonora and Mariposa, CA — The North Mountain and Oliver fires are a long way from being fully contained.

Effective Thursday evening the North Mountain Fire in the Cherry Creek Drainage of south Tuolumne County was covering 1,228 acres and was about 25 per contained. No full containment date has been released by Forest Service officials.

Nine hand crews, 17 standby engines, two standby dozers and three standby water tenders are on hand along with two helicopters. One of those helicopters was ordered from Colorado.

A total of 374 firefighters are on hand. To date only one injury has been reported. Officials are reporting NO road closures in the immediate area.

The $3.03 million 20 percent contained Oliver Fire in Mariposa County has now burned 2,200 acres. On scene from all agencies are 141 engines, 8 watertenders, 13 bulldozers, 29 handcrews, eight airtankers and five helicopters along with one air attack plane. No structures have been destroyed. One moderate and seven minor injuries have been reported.

A Ponderosa Basin community meeting has been scheduled for 6pm Friday at the Mariposa County Fire Station #32, 5618 Creel Rd., Mariposa. Fire and law enforcement personnel will be on hand to answer question and address any concerns.
