Sonora Christmas Parade Set For Tonight

The 26th city sponsored Sonora Christmas Parade is set for a 5:30pm start Friday at the Old Red Church.

City Events Coordinator, Sheala Wilkenson was Friday’s KVML “Newmaker of the Day”.

The parade will stage at Sonora High School parking lot. the pool parking lot and School Street prior to 5:30.

There will be three announcing stations along the parade route. Bill Johnson and BJ Hansen from the KVML Newscenter, will be announcing from Yosemite House (near the courthouse). Mark Truppner from KVML and Alisha Cruz will both be announcing from the balcony of Go Figure (across from Bank of America). Big Joe Marshall from KKBN 93.5 FM and Deborah Reindeau will be announcing from the Gunn House motel.

The following street closures will be in effect for the parade. At 3pm School Street at N. Washington and Snell Street will be closed to through traffic. At 5pm the following streets will be closed: Bonanza at Snell, Elkin at N. Washington, S. Washington at Church, Stockton at Green, Stockton at Forest Rd., Restano Way at S. Washington and Restano Way at Stewart.

Northbound traffic on S. Washington St. from the by-pass will be diverted at Hospital Rd. Traffic will be diverted east on Hospital Rd. back to Mono Way.

West bound traffic on Mono Way will continue north on Stewart. Traffic wishing to go west on Stockton will be diverted to the by-pass.

Southbound traffic from Hwy 49 will be diverted at Elkin St. at N. Washington. Traffic will be permitted to continue east on Elkin St. to N. Stewart.

Eastbound traffic on Stockton Rd. will be closed to through traffic at Forest Rd. Vehicles wishing to proceed east or south will be diverted to the bypass.

Vehicles wishing to proceed north from Stockton Rd. will be diverted to Forest Rd. to Bonanza St. to Snell St. They also have the option of going west on Hwy 49 to Jamestown Shaws Flat Rd.

Please drive safely and remember NO alcoholic beverages are permitted along the parade route by order of the Sonora Police Department. Anyone on the parade route with an open container of an alcoholic beverage will be arrested.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
