Timber Harvest Bill Approved By Legislature

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA – 1st District Republican State Senator Dave Cox is praising a bill that allows additional time to complete a timber harvest plan.

The bipartisan Assembly Bill 1066 was introduced by Democrat Tony Mendoza of Los Angeles and approved in both houses of the legislature. It extends the life of timber harvest plans from five to seven years and reduces regulatory costs for private foresters until 2012.

“Sawmill workers and their employers have had a devastating year,” says Cox. “This modest measure provides a more reasonable and efficient timber harvest plan review process that will enable the State to reduce its costs.”

AB 1066 moves onto Governor Schwarzenegger’s desk for approval.
