Tuolumne County Captures The Gold AGAIN
Sonora, CA — For the fifth year in a row Tuolumne County was awarded a gold ribbon at the California State Fair in Sacramento.
The judges’ decision was announced at the annual Awards Ceremony for the County Exhibits at Cal Expo over the weekend.
According to Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Nanci Sikes this year’s theme was “Wild, Weird & Wacky.”
Commented Ms. Sikes, “It did present some challenges but fortunately our residents and businesses offered a number of items related to each word. We took great advantage of our resident ghosts in our Golf Rush era hotels and included posters from the Poison Oak Festival and the Groveland mayoral race which included a dog running for mayor to promote their ’49er Festival.”
Judging for the award is based on a point system with credit for animation, technology, natural materials, products grown or produced in the region and components of the exhibit that relate specifically to the theme. The exhibit incorporated all of the above in its design and the activities and events it promotes such as “wild adventures” (from skiing to white water rafting), UFO sightings and the aforementioned ghosts to cover the weird and our unique festivals to cover the wacky.
This year’s exhibit is a partnership between the County of Tuolumne, Black Oak Casino and the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau.
The Fair will run through Monday, September 7 (Labor Day weekend).
