Meals On Wheels Fundraiser Set For Railtown

Sponsored by:

The 3rd Annual Meals on Wheels fundraiser is set for Saturday night, August 22nd at Railtown 1897 in Jamestown.

Ron Patell, co-chair for Meals on Wheels, was Wednesday’s KVML "Newsmaker of the Day". Music will be provided by The Black Irish Band. Also playing Cousin Dave Rainwater & Lori Brandon. Entertainment will also include Moroccan dancers (belly dancers).

Last year over $70,000 was raised for Tuolumne County’s Meals on Wheels fundraiser.

Patell says that it costs approximately $100,000 each year to keep the program running, so this single fundraiser is a major part of its budget to supply meals to seniors.

The night will include a "Marrakesh Express" train ride and meal by Seven Sisters.

Many raffle and auction prizes will be made available.

Tickets are available at any local branch of Umpqua Bank. Tickets are $75. Special Reserved Tables of 8 at a discounted price of $525. You can also call 533-2622 for ticket information.

Proceeds of this fundraiser will go to local Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels is a program for Seniors 60+ years of age, who are homebound and/or cannot cook for themselves. Sierra Senior Providers deliver hot, nutritionally balanced meals to the home. A person needing a home delivered meal service can have meals for five days and two frozen meals for the weekend.

Meals are prepared and packaged by the Meals on Wheels staff at the Tuolumne County Senior Center. Hot, home delivered meal service is offered five days a week to the Sonora, Tuolumne, Jamestown, Columbia and Phoenix Lake areas. In addition, two frozen meals can be delivered on Fridays for weekend consumption. Seniors living in other areas of Tuolumne County are provided seven frozen meals, according to his/her needs, delivered once a week.

The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
