TuCare To Host Safety-Net Faire And Forest Forum

Sonora, CA — Friday, June 19th TuCare will be hosting the Community Safety-Net Faire in an effort to help those in need, followed later by the Community Forest Forum.

According to TuCare Spokesperson Melinda Fleming, “If you have lost your job or about to lose your job we think we can help with the number of agencies that will be on hand at the Sonora Elks Lodge from 9am until noon.”

Fleming was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Agencies that will be participating include ATCAA, Interfaith, Project Hope, Cutler-Segerstrom Insurance, Mother Lode Job Training and Columbia College.

Also on hand will be Tuolumne County Public Health & Social Services, Mountain Women’s Resource Center and I.C.E.S. (Infant Child Enrichment Services) to childcare information for county residents.

Fleming added, “TuCare is a natural resource based organization but we feel our most valuable natural resource is people so we are reaching out to our community in this time of crisis.” 

The second half of the day will be TuCare’s Community Forest Forum. This is an educational forum with the intent of informing the public on the current condition of the Sierra Nevada forest and its immediate future.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Tom Bonnicksen, Professor Emeritus, Texas A&M who will speak on the dangers of the forests excess fuels and what should be done about it.

Steve Brink, Vice President for the California Forestry Association is also scheduled to speak.

The Community Forest Forum is scheduled from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. Friday, June 19th.
