Sonora, CA — Three people were injured in a single vehicle accident Friday night on Hwy 49 just north of the Tuolumne-Mariposa County line.

The CHP says 23-year-old Dutch Rutherford of Salida was driving a Jeep 45 mph or faster along a 20 mph curve. The vehicle went off the road, down a canyon and nose dived into a shallow creek.

Rutherford sustained moderate injuries and was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He has been charged with driving under the influence.

20-year-old Rebecca Adkins of Salida sustained major injuries and 18-year-old Ashlee Rizarro of Merced had moderate injuries. Both were taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center.
