Sonora Police Chief Settles In

Sponsored by:

Sonora’s new Police Chief Mark Stinson, says that the transition between himself and former Police Chief Mace McIntosh has so far been seamless.

Stinson was KVML’s Thursday morning Newsmaker of the Day.

Stinson was raised in Redding, California and wanted to persue law enforcement after being introduced to it through his high school’s Regional Occupational Program (R.O.P.)

Stinson eventually joined the Sheriffs Dept in Alturus (Modoc County) and the Red Bluff City Police Dept. before joining the Sonora Police Dept as Lieutenant five years ago.

“The difference between being a Lieutenant vs Police Chief is a lot more meetings,” laughed Stinson, “that and you really feel like your job is in a bubble… people look at what you say and what you do.”

Stinson says that he got into law enforcement to help people and believes in an open door policy. He says that you can’t help employees or residents with a closed door.

The largest looming challenge for Stinson is his budget and funding. Positions are frozen and Stinson wants to meet the challenge of providing the same service with less money.

The Newsmaker of the Day can be heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47 on AM-1450 KVML.
