Chamber Head Tells Supervisors That Economy Is Recovering

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO George Segarini told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that he feels the local economy is in a "recovery mode," despite all of the “doom and gloom” people hear about at the national level.

Segarini says companies have expressed interest in moving into the former Mervyns building, whether it be renting the entire space or dividing it to house more than one business.

Segarini praised the “Pak N Save” expansion into a full Safeway store. “They (Safeway) had pulled back on remodeling some of their units during the slowdown, but decided that Sonora would not be on that list,” says Segarini. “It will be completed very shortly.”

He says the new Price Co grocery store will be opening early next month in the Junction Shopping Center, located in the former Albertson’s building.

He also spoke highly of a new Shopping Center that is being developed for the corner of Hwy 108 and Standard Rd. that is being spearheaded by California Gold Development Corporation. Construction could begin as early as this spring.
