County Hopes To Use Stimulus Money For Sugar Pine And J-59 Projects

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County expects to receive between $2.5 and $3.9 million for infrastructure projects from the Federal Stimulus Package.

Recently the Tuolumne County Transportation Council recommended that the county apply for stimulus funding to construct a trail in Sugar Pine and reconstruct a portion of J-59.

Around $240,000 would go towards the trail project and the remaining for J-59. How much of J-59 is reconstructed would depend upon how much money is eventually available. The hope is that it will at least be enough to fund the stretch between Hwy 108/120 and Bonds Flat Rd.

In order to receive money from the Stimulus Package, the projects must be ready to begin within 120 days. Public Works Director Peter Rei told the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors Tuesday that both proposals fit the criteria.

The Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve the Transportation Council’s recommendations.
