Calaveras Snow Plow Drivers vs Parked Vehicles

Sponsored by:

Over the past week, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department has received 21 phone calls from Public Works snow plow drivers in regards to vehicles parked on the roadways also known as "County right of ways". Vehicles left on public roads are interfering with snow removal operations.

Lt. Tim Sturm, with the Calaveras Sheriff’s Dept. was Thursday morning’s KVML Newsmaker of the Day.

Sturm says, "The County defines snow removal operations as anytime that snow is present on the road. This means that vehicle owners are responsible for making sure that their vehicle is parked on private property and not on the county roads."

Sturm stresses that one vehicle can tie up large amounts of time, not only for the snow plow driver but the Sheriff’s Dept. The vehicle owner not only receives a fifty-dollar citation but must also pay for the cost of having the vehicle towed away and impounded.

With a new winter storm set to arrive this weekend and carry into next week, Sturm hopes that Calaveras residents are receptive to not only the message but also the law.

The Newsmaker of the Day can be heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47 on AM-1450 KVML.
