Habitat For Humanity Surprise

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– It was a happy day yesterday for four families in Sonora as they were selected to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County. These families will be the first to buy homes in the Parrotts Ferry Village subdivision near Columbia which is being developed by Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County.  Yesterday’s announcement made at the Sonora Delta Blood Bank, came as a complete surprise to the four chosen families who believed they were there at 5 pm to just complete another interview.

The four families were chosen out of 30 applicants who went through a rigorous process that included credit reports, mortgages applications, interviews, and home visits. These four families will also be earning their “sweat equity” before purchasing their Habitat home. It is a requirement of the Habitat program for each Habitat family to perform 500 hours of “sweat equity” assisting in the building of their home. Upon completion of the home, the Habitat partner family will pay a 0% interest mortgage based on the actual cost to build the home.

The newest Habitat partner families are: Nick and Sandra Gee with their three children, Jonathan (age 7), Noah (age 4) and Joey, (age 2) and Nick’s mother, Nancy; Mara Roberts-Armstrong and her children, Joanna (15), Conception (12), Anthony (11), Alex (6), and Bella (5); Mark and Tina Watts and her children Matthew (10) and Tianna (3) and also the Villegas family, Richard and Regina Villegas and their children Alexia (5) and Richard Jr. (3).

Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County, Betsy Harden said, “This is the best part of my job. Today just reinvigorates me that this affiliate is doing the right thing. We’re putting strong, hard working families into homes so they can stay in Tuolumne County. I love my job.”
