Walk Against Hunger
Sonora, CA– If you were in downtown Sonora yesterday morning, you saw a lot of people wearing green shirts. Hundreds of people were walking in The Fourth Annual Walk Against Hunger organized by the ATTCA Food Bank of Sonora. Staffed with approximately 1,200 volunteers, the Food Bank feeds an average of 4,000 people in Tuolumne County each month.
Event Coordinator Dana Prothro said, “We just want everyone to know what we do and that’s feed hungry people. Look at the streets , they’re green. It’s like everybody from the community gets together and it’s the love and commitment to people who are right now devastated because of the recession. It’s just so awesome and amazing to me, the love that I feel and see within all these people and how much they’re giving for this whole purpose.”
The Walk Against Hunger kicked off at Courthouse Park at 9 am and participants walked about a mile in downtown Sonora before returning to the park. The event lasted until 11 am and featured live entertainment, refreshments, a bounce house for the kids, face painting and informational booths.
