Shooter Pleads Not Guilty

Oakland, CA — The Groveland man arrested following a shootout in Oakland has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.
The Associated Press reports that Byron Williams entered his plea in Alameda County Superior Court yesterday. He faces four counts of attempted murder against a peace officer and three felony counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and one count of possessing ammunition. Police say Williams opened fire on CHP officers on July 17th after they tried to pull him over for a traffic stop on Interstate 580. Williams has two previous bank robbery convictions, and could face life in prison under California’s three strikes law if convicted. His pretrial hearing is set for September 23rd.
