Grand Jury Report Released
Sonora, CA – The 2009-10 Grand Jury Report has been released for Tuolumne County.
The 78 page report was put together by a panel of community members and is available for view on the county’s website.
When it comes to public safety, the Grand Jury found that the current jail is "grossly outdated" and "seriously understaffed due to a lack of funding." The Grand Jury is recommending the construction of a new jail.
In the area of Public Health, the Grand Jury recommends moving all health services to the nearly vacant Tuolumne General Medical Campus to reduce rent fees and expenses.
At Sonora High School, the Grand Jury proposes that more unprocessed foods be available for students. The Grand Jury also recommends that the school consider implementing a dress code or require student uniforms.
Since 1991, a civil grand jury has been impaneled in each of California’s 58 counties to serve as an independent watchdog on local government.
