Criminals Steal The Wrong Tool

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – Two were arrested in Sonora for attempting to steal money from a newspaper stand in the 700 block of Mono Way.

Sonora Police Department officers responded at 7:28am Wednesday and approached the two suspects, 48 year old Sean McIntyre and 25-year-old Robert Epperly.

In their possession was a large pair of cable crimpers. These are not bolt cutters so they don’t cut. They are used for crimping large pieces of cable. The crimpers were brand new and still had the security tag and instruction manual attached.

Later in the investigation it was learned that the pair had entered Orchard Hardware and stolen the crimpers. Believing that they had stolen bolt cutters, the two attempted to cut the lock off the paper stands coin box, but obviously were unsuccessful.

Epperly and McIntyre were booked into Tuolumne County Jail.
