Calaveras Keeps The Tourists Coming

Sponsored by:

An increase in tourism is anticipated in Calaveras County this Spring, thanks to the efforts of the Calaveras Visitors Bureau.

Lisa Mayo, Executive Director for the Bureau, was Wednesday’s KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

Social Networking is the latest tool, being utilized by the Burea, to keep potential tourists interested in what takes place in Calaveras. Mayo has taken numerous marketing classes and is turning her knowledge around to help present classes to local business owners, who are interested in finding out how to use facebook, twitter and other social websites.

According to Mayo, the projected tourist numbers for this Spring are about five hundred people higher, then compared to one year ago.

Mayo will be delivering her "numbers report" to the Angels Camp City Council next week and then the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors shortly after.

Mayo was recently awarded a scholarship from the Western Association of Convention and Visitor Bureau’s to attend the WACVB Tourism Tech Summit to be held in Seattle later this month. Only two people are given this full ride scholarship each year.

The KVML "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
