Motorists Still Not Getting The Message

Sonora and San Andreas, CA — According to the C.H.P. Maximum Enforcement Period (M.E.P.) statistics a number of motorists are still not getting the message when it comes to obeying traffic laws.

C.H.P. Officer Mike Remmel reports there were five DUI arrests in Tuolumne County and the one fatality where 76 year old Sharlee Weston was killed Friday evening on Hwy 49 near Shaws Flat Rd. when her vehicle hit a deer and overturned several times. Weston was not wearing her seat belt. Alcohol was not a contributing in the county’s first traffic related fatality of the year. 

Loren Parrish (Modesto), David Kenning (Sonora), Jolene Andrews (Soulsbyville), Richard Partington (Newman) and Jose Nunez (Tracy) were all charged with driving-under-the-influence. A total of 52 speeding citations were issued, seven for seat belt violations, six for illegal turns and 56 for illegal parking in the Little Sweden area. A total of five accidents were reported over the New Years Day weekend, two of those involved drivers-under-the-influence.

In Calaveras County Officer Becky Myers reports four drivers were charged with driving-under-the-influence; one of them was 22 year old Brittani Strain of Valley Springs who was arrested and booked into the County Jail for her involvement in an early Friday morning single vehicle accident on Baldwin St. west of Gabor Street that has left 25 year old William Mack III of Valley Springs unconscious and in critical condition at the U.C. Davis Medical Center. Strain has been charged with Felony Injury DUI.

Others charged with a DUI offense in Calaveras County over the weekend; 27 year old Jason Mathis (Valley Springs), 21 year old Courtney Juarez (Modesto) and Tyler Coale (Stockton) 

Overall Calaveras County C.H.P. officers issued 32 citations including 25 for speeding, two for seat belt violations and two for using cell phones. In addition 15 citations were issued for those who did not have Snow Park passes.
