Amador County Soldier Dies In Qatar

Ione, CA — An Amador County soldier has died while supporting Operation New Dawn.

38-year-old Ione resident James B. Wilke died Monday in Qatar. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 11th Air Defense Arillery Brigade, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command.

Governor Jerry Brown’s office has released a statement about Wilke’s passing. “On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Chief Warrant Officer James B. Wilke who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.”

The Governor ordered that flags be flown at half-staff yesterday at the State Capitol.
The cause of Wilke’s death has not been released.
