FBI Extortion Arrest

Angels Camp, CA — The FBI arrested a man in Angels Camp for allegedly trying to extort $50,000 from a West Virginia greyhound breeder, and threatening the state’s Governor.

Court documents show that Harry Marshall Rae, who lists his primary residence in Florida, demanded that breeder Dean Miner pay $50,000 so that four hours of controversial video recordings not be released to the media. Rae told the trainer to make the check out to a certain Boy Scout troop.

Rae also sent threatening e-mails to West Virginia acting Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. One stated that “certain videos,” could be released that would be detrimental to his election campaign. Tomblin has close family ties to the greyhound racing industry. Court documents state that Rae e-mailed the Governor saying his election hopes were going down the tube, and urged him to “Call Dean.” It indicates that Rae may have hoped that the Governor would pressure the trainer to settle the problem before the election.

FBI Spokesperson Steve Dupre of the Sacramento Division confirms that Rae was captured in Angels Camp. An arrest warrant provided by the FBI shows that Rae’s sister lives at 3326 Meacham Ranch Road. It also shows that Rae asked the Post Office back in 2000 to allow him to receive mail at the sister’s Angels Camp P.O. Box.

The videos reportedly showed rabbits being used as lures during training.
