Drug Related Arrests In Copperopolis

Copperopolis, CA– Calaveras County authorities arrested two people on several drug and firearms charges this week.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday at around 2:50 am, deputies conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in Copperopolis.

After searching the vehicle, deputies located narcotics related packaging. When the driver Mikael Soper was questioned, he attempted to flee the scene on foot. Soper was arrested and 40 grams of methamphetamine was found in the vehicle along with additional packaging, cash, an assault rifle and a shotgun. Soper’s passenger, Patricia Sewell was also arrested and transported to the County Jail.

Soper was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance and possession of firearms in the commission of a felony.

Sewell was booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and transportation of a controlled substance.

Following the arrest of Soper and Sewell, the Calaveras Narcotics Enforcement Unit obtained a search warrant regarding a third suspect.  Along with Calaveras Sheriff’s detectives, the Escalon Police Department and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation K-9 Unit, the suspect’s residence was searched in Escalon.

Investigators located 11 grams of methamphetamine and over 200 prescription pills which appear to have been diverted from legitimate medical use. No arrests have been made at this time in connection to the Escalon search warrant.

The Sheriff’s Office says because the investigation in ongoing, no further information will be released.
