Search And Rescue Operation At Yosemite

Sponsored by:

Yosemite Valley, CA– Rangers are currently conducting a search and rescue operation at Yosemite National Park.

Park spokesperson Kari Cobb says that emergency services received “multiple calls” about one or more hikers going into the water and over Vernal Falls at around 1 p.m.

The Mist Trail in the park has been temporarily closed until at least noon tomorrow or until further notice, according to park officials. Visitors wishing to hike from Happy Isles will need to ascend the John Muir Trail, bypassing the Mist Trail, which leads to Vernal Fall.

Record snowfall has created exceptional runoff at Yosemite and has caused dangerous conditions. At least eight people have died in the park this year.
