Stolen Dragon Attraction Update

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– The owner of a Sonora martial arts studio who reported a theft last week, has received a little good news.

Dan Sandelin of Five Claw Martial Arts said, “Saturday morning, I got a call from the Police Department who said they had recovered a stolen U-Haul trailer in Sonora. The thieves had left the drum in it which was one of our articles, and was just sitting in the back all by itself. It was a little wet cause it was raining, but it wasn’t damaged. I was pretty pleased.”

Sandelin says the Chinese drum used in a number of local parades and community events is worth about $500. The Police and Sheriff’s Department currently have no leads on the other stolen items which include the body of a 60 foot Chinese cloth dragon and Chinese lion dog suits.

According to Sandelin, an unknown suspect or suspects broke into his trailer May 31st at his business on 14317 Mono Way and stole parts of the popular Chinese dragon attraction.

Sandlin is hoping the other stolen items can be recovered. “That would make life a lot easier,” said Sandlin. “Otherwise we have to go back to the drawing board again. I would love to have the dragon back June 21st for the opening of the Learning Center at the library. I also want to thank the community for their responses. I think it’s awesome.”

Anyone with information regarding this theft can contact Dan Sandelin at 532-6306 or the Sonora Police Department at 532-8141.
