Yosemite Prepares For Busy Weekend
Yosemite Valley, CA– This Memorial Day weekend, Yosemite National Park is preparing for an exceptional visitor turnout.
“It’s going to a very busy weekend here,” said Park Ranger Kari Cobb. “In preparation, we have actually scheduled more rangers to be out in the Village area. They can be also be made available for any visitors with questions.”
Another plus this weekend is the opening of Glacier Point Road. According to Cobb, the road opened today at noon.
Cobb says because of record snowfall over the winter, there is record snow melt this spring. Visitors can see amazing waterfalls this year, as Yosemite is experiencing near peak water flow.
Park officials estimate that at least 2,400 gallons will fall each second just at Yosemite Falls as the snowmelt reaches its peak by about June 10. It’s enough to fill an Olympic-sized pool every four minutes.
“The weather here is beautiful right now,” said Cobb. “Come see us for Memorial Day weekend, drive safe, and watch for animals. There are lots of bears and lots of deer out right now.”
