Greenley Road Project Approved

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– Sonora Elementary School students will have better access to and from school because of a new project approved by the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors.

During Tuesday’s supervisor’s meeting, the Greenley Road Widening and Signalization Project was unanimously approved 5-0.  This includes approving plans, notice to bidders, special provisions, a proposal, and a contract.

Gary Taylor, Deputy Director of Engineering says completion of the proposed project will provide children the necessary facilities to safely walk to and from school, safer access to and from the school for drivers, as well as a better road surface.

The project involves the construction of limited road widening in front of Sonora Elementary School for bicycle/pedestrian traffic, a designated right turn lane at the school’s relocated entrance, a new sidewalk, curb and gutter, and a new traffic signal for the school. In addition, Tuolumne Utilities District will be relocating their waterline in front of the school, installing broadband facilities and finally overlaying Greenley Road from Guzzi Lane to Lyons Bald Mountain.

“There will be a lot of construction on Greenley Road over the summer,” said Tuolumne County Public Works Director Peter Rei. “We’re going to ask everybody’s patience because it’s going to be a pretty good construction zone probably for the majority of the summer. But when it’s all done I think you’ll all be very happy with the project.”

Bids for the project are due at 2:30 pm at the Public Works Department at 48 W. Yaney, third floor conference room on Thursday, April 7th.
