Quarry Project Clears Hurdle

Sponsored by:

Jamestown, CA — The Tuolumne County Planning Commission has made a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors regarding the Cooperstown Quarry project proposed near Jamestown.

The rock quarry would be located on 135 acres in the southwest corner of the county.

“The Planning Commission has recommended approval of the project,” says Community Development Director Bev Shane. “They suggested some changes to the Board of Supervisors regarding conditions of the use-permit to address issues concerning noise, improvements to Cooperstown Road, and mitigation measures for impacts to oak woodlands.”

The Commission also approved a change in zoning so that 51 acres nearby would become open space to help mitigate impacts to wildlife.

The Planning Commission vote was 5-0, with one member abstaining. The Board of Supervisors will take up the matter on March 15th.
