Grape Stomp And More Events

Local events offer opportunities to have fun this weekend including at the Calaveras Grape Stomp and Gold Rush Street Faire. The grape stomp is held at the Murphys Community Park from 9:30AM – 5:00PM. A large crowd of stompers and spectators are expected from around California. The Stomp is organized by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance, an organization of Calaveras County wineries and features the stomping competition, silent and live auctions as well as art, food, street fair and wine. Plus the news story “Central Sierra Arts Council Moves Into Dome” has details on this weekend’s Youth Arts Festival. The Central Sierra Arts Council’s Youth Arts Festival will start at 9:00AM with free hands on art experiences, musical performances, storytelling, artist demonstrations and lunch will be for sale. Eproson Park, Twain Harte this weekend will host Oktoberfest both Saturday and Sunday with arts and crafts, food and music. A portion of the proceeds will go to the THACC Scholarship fund. More details are in the event listing.

The Pine Mountain Lake Aviation Association (PMLAA) in Groveland will be open to the local community for their annual Airport Day. In the morning from 9am to noon, the Experimental Aircraft Association will host the Young Eagles event for kids age 8 to 17. More information here.

Also on Saturday at Columbia is the 30th Annual Fiddle & Bango Contest. (Bango was a misprint on the t-shirt back in 1983 and it has been used ever since.) Music and chili fans are reminded to bring lawn chairs, hats, and suncreen! This year’s competition is dedicated to the memory of the event coordinator Denise Kerner who passed away in April of this year.  All the details are here.
