Forum On Economic Development

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — A forum tomorrow will look at Tuolumne County’s efforts to promote economic development.

In 2008, Tuolumne County sponsored a California Association of Local Economic Development (CALED) Forum to help establish a vision for the future.

Tuolumne County’s Economic Development Authority Director Larry Cope said that some of the priorities were to revitalize the former economic development organization, secure sustainable funding and streamline regulations.

The Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority has agreed to sponsor a 2012 CALED Forum to evaluate how the county has done implementing the 2008 goals, and create new elements to work on in the years to come.

In general the EDA goals are to attract new businesses to the area and retain existing businesses by expanding and upgrading infrastructure, improving access to capital and financing, as well as streamlining regulations and the permit processes. The department assists and enhances job training institutions and supports business growth and tourism.

Today members of CALED are in Sonora to meet with stakeholders. On Friday there will be a community forum beginning at 9am at the Sonora Oaks Conference Center.

The Tuolumne County Supervisors and Sonora City Council designated the event as a “special meeting” so that they can officially attend and provide input.

The January 20th forum is open to the public. The Sonora Area Foundation has approved a grant to fund the event.
