Governor Brown Pushes For Tax Increases
Sacramento, CA — Governor Jerry Brown says California is facing a 9.2 billion deficit for the fiscal year that starts July 1st.
Brown was Tuesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
The Governor released his 2012-13 budget proposal last week.
Brown is proposing a ballot initiative that would ask voters to raise the income tax on those who earn $250,000 or more a year and boost the state sales tax by a half cent for a five year period.
Brown says if the plan is voted down, he is proposing more trigger cuts to K12 education and universities. It would result in three weeks less school and higher college tuition.
“We’ve got so much spending, and we’ve got so much money, so we have to make the two balance,” said Brown. “We haven’t done that for years and years. I’m telling you that we can now do it if we follow this path.”
