Update: Containment Grows, Acreage Drops In Boyer Fire

Update at 8 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that the acreage has dropped to 53 acres while the containment has climbed to 75-percent in the Boyer Fire burning in the Bootjack area of Mariposa County. The flames broke out around 2 p.m. on Friday along Boyer Road near Fox Hollow Lane off of Highway 49. One structure has been destroyed. All Advisory Evacuations were lifted Saturday by the sheriff’s office. Residents along Sherrod Road to the Owl Creek Bridge that were under a Mandatory Evacuation since shortly after the fire began were allowed back into their homes Friday evening.

Update at 6:45 a.m.: CAL Fire updates that the Boyer Fire’s containment has jumped to 60-percent and the acreage remains steady at 75 acres. Further details on the blaze are below.

Update at 5:30 a.m.: The Boyer Fire burning in the Bootjack area of Mariposa County is 75 acres and 40-percent contained this morning.  The sheriff’s office lifted all mandatory evacuations yesterday around 6:30 p.m. Crews worked overnight strengthening lines and gaining containment on the blaze. The flames broke out along Boyer Road near Fox Hollow Lane off of Highway 49 just after 2 p.m. on Friday. Residents from the east end of Sherrod Road to the Owl Creek Bridge were forced from their homes for nearly five hours.

Update at 6:45pm Friday: The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office reports that all Mandatory Evacuations along Sherrod Road from the East end to the Owl Creek Bridge have been lifted for the Boyer Fire burning in the Bootjack area of the county off Highway 49. Update at 6:30pm: CAL Fire reports crews have gained five percent containment on the Boyer Fire that is 65 acres in size. Crews will continue to work into the night to gain containment on the blaze. Additional information regarding the fire can be found below.

Update at 6pm: Columbia aircraft have been called off the Boyer Fire. Further details on the blaze are below.

Update at 4:15pm: CAL Fire reports that the Boyer Fire has jumped to about 65 acres and there is no containment. Mandatory Evacuations remain in place for residents along Sherrod Road from the East end to the Owl Creek Bridge in the Bootjack area. A Red Cross Evacuation Center has been set up at 5089 Cole Road at the New Life Christian Church.

An Evacuation Advisory, which means residents should prepare for a possible evacuation, has been issued for Clouds Rest Road, Ridge Side (West Side) only- From Half Dome to Lehamite roads. Mandatory Evacuation details are below.

Update at 3:50pm: CAL Fire updates that the size of the Boyer Fire, which has forced evacuations, is holding at 40 acres and no structures have been burned, but there is no containment at this time. Dispatch reports that crews are continuing to make progress on the blaze. An Evacuation Advisory, which means residents should prepare for a possible evacuation, has been issued for Clouds Rest Road, Ridge Side (West Side) only- From Half Dome to Lehamite roads. Mandatory Evacuation details are below.

Update 3:20pm: CAL Fire reports that the fire has grown to 40 acres in size, but crews are getting a handle on the flames. There are evacuations in place, details are below.

Update 2:45pm: CAL Fire reports that the Boyer fire, which has forced residents from their homes  is 25-30 acres in size but crews are “making good progress.”

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has ordered mandatory evacuations for Sherrod Road from the East end to the Owl Creek Bridge in the Bootjack area. A Red Cross Evacuation Center has been set up at 5089 Cole Road at the New Life Christian Church. Sheriff units are on the scene along with Cal Fire/Cal Fire Air support, including Columbia aircraft, and Mariposa County Fire.

The flames broke out along Boyer Road near Fox Hollow Lane off of Highway 49 just after 2 p.m.

Original post at 2:20pm: Bootjack, CA — If you heard the Columbia aircraft fly over they are heading to a vegetation fire in Mariposa County in the Bootjack area.

CAL Fire reports it has been titled the Boyer Fire as the flames broke out along Boyer Road off of Highway 49. There is no word on the fire’s size or the flame’s rate of spread or whether any structures are threatened at this time. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom.
