Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Police Department is now calling the death of a Mono Way business owner a homicide.

Police Chief Mark Stinson says 49-year-old Rick Roberts died of apparent gunshot wounds at his auto body business yesterday morning, at 280 Mono Way. The California Department of Justice arrived yesterday afternoon to assist with the investigation, as did the District Attorney’s Office. No one has been arrested in connection to the murder.

The PD reports that the case is still under investigation and no further information is being released at the time. Roberts was a volunteer with the Sonora Police Department. He was a member of the department’s Police Associate Citizen’s Team. He also worked as an advisor with the Police Department’s Explorer program, and helped train Explorers for competitions, and chaperoned them at events.

If you have information on the case, you should contact the Sonora PD at 209-532-8141. According to the Police Department, the last homicide in the City of Sonora was February 28, 2001.
