A Superintendent For Vallecito

Sonora, CA — Vallecito Union School District has hired a new Superintendent. He is 50 year old Don Ogden from Sacramento. He has 16 years of in education administration and teaching. Most recently he was the principal and school supervisor over a charter school called Connections Academy in Ripon. 


Ogden says “I feel really lucky to to have been given this opportunity. This is a great district. The teachers are really fabulous. I have met a lot of really passionate teachers, and the families are really supportive, and the board has a really good vision for this district. So all the way around I am really excited to be here.”

The Vallecito Union School District is composed of two K-5 schools and one 6-8 middle school. The Albert Michelson School campus is located in Murphys, Hazel Fischer School campus in Arnold, and Avery Middle School is located in Avery.

Don Ogden became the Superintendent/Principal of Vallecito Union School District in November 2013. He brings to the school 16 years of experience in education administration and teaching, and several accolades for outstanding achievement. Mr. Ogden holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from California State University, Stanislaus, and a master’s degree in education from the University of La Verne. He has a proven background in developing learning organizations that support all students to learn and meet the highest performance standards. In his most recent role as the Founding Principal of California Connections Academy @ Ripon, Ogden led the school’s dedicated staff of teachers, administrators and support staff in delivering to students in grades K-12 a virtual school program with an individualized approach to learning.


Prior to joining California Connections Academy @ Ripon, Ogden served as principal at Camellia Basic School in Sacramento where he was also involved in district-wide planning committees and mentored new administrators. As a result of his dedication, he was the recipient of the prestigious Milken National Educator of the Year Award in 2002. Ogden has led schools recognized for outstanding student achievement nationally and in California, including the following honors: National Blue Ribbon School, California Distinguished School, California Achieving School as well as Exemplary School, and School on the Move.


Ogden says, “Helping students reach their full potential is my greatest passion. I am honored to lead our team of exceptional teachers and staff as we deliver an outstanding education program to the students in the Vallecito Union School District.”
