Parking Tickets In Sonora?

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Police Department lost its parking enforcement officer due to budget cuts a couple of years ago, and some are trying to take advantage of the situation.

“Unfortunately, a lot of people have been coming into the Police Department recently to complain about getting parking citations,” says Police Chief Mark Stinson. “Most of our parking incidents these days are handled on a complaint only basis.”

Stinson says the department has recently stepped up efforts in some areas due to an increased number of complaints about people parking in loading zones for an extended period, parking in red zones and fire lanes.

As time allows, officers have also increased efforts to enforce City and State parking regulations, such as parking on sidewalks, double parking, backing into parking stalls, failure to park on the right side of the roadway, parking over 18 inches from the curb line, etc.

Stinson says the main message he wants to relay to the community is that it is a “fallacy” to believe that even though the PD does not have an official parking enforcement officer that you can park in illegal areas without the potential of getting ticketed or towed.
