Supervisors To Talk Jail And Budget

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors will hold a budget hearing and vote whether to request state grant money for a new jail.

They are two of the notable items on Tuesday’s agenda. The Supervisors initially planned to have the final budget hearing for fiscal year 2013/14 on September 3rd, but it was postponed due to the Rim Fire. The final General Fund Budget would be around $58.4 million. It is up $3.5 million above the initial budget projection of earlier this year. It is due to items like the SAFER grant funding that has been received to staff the Jamestown Fire Station and unexpected costs related to the Rim Fire. County documents show that the county has had to spend around $1.45 million thus far related to the fire. $1.42 million has been covered by a federal Fire Management Assistance Grant. Some of the other remaining expenses may eventually be covered by state or federal programs.

The County will also decide whether to submit an SB 1022 grant funding request for up to $20 million in jail funding.

Tuesday’s meeting begins at 9am in the Supervisors meeting room. It will be streamed live in the multimedia section of myMotherLode.com.
