184 At Rim Fire Evacuation Center

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Through the night the Rim Fire Evacuation Advisory allowed people to remain at their homes from Tuolumne to Wi-Wuk Village. Residents still have time to plan and prepare for possible evacuation warnings. Non residents are being kept out of the path of many emergency vehicles and personnel in Tuolumne and East of Highway 108. Highway 108 is still open.

The only evacuation center for the Rim Fire is open and had 184 people come over throughout the evening. The facility can handle up to 1,000 evacuees and plans are in place for a second evacuation center if it is needed according to Jordan Scott the Red Cross Communications Director at the Sonora Center. TherE are kennels for small animals at the evacuation center as seen in the photos.

There will be two town hall meetings in Sonora today. One will be held at the Sierra Bible Church on 15171 Tuolumne Road near Standard Road at 2pm. The other will be at 4pm at Word of Life Fellowship at 24630 Highway 108 in Mi-Wuk Village.

Cal Fire Capt. Mike Spears said, “The basic emphasis of this is to get the people of these different communities affected by the Rim Fire together an update them on what’s going on with the fire and what our plans are for this fire.”

There will be representatives from Cal Fire, the Sheriff’s Department, Red Cross and a Supervisor from the Tuolumne County Board on hand ready to field questions.
