Brown Visits Ireland And Germany

Sponsored by:

Gov. Jerry Brown and his wife, Anne Gust Brown, are visiting their ancestral countries of Ireland and Germany as part of a two-week trip abroad.

Brown was Tuesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Brown told The Sacramento Bee that he plans to visit relatives and sites connected to his great-grandfathers. One emigrated from Germany in 1848, and another fled Ireland during the potato famine.

The couple left the state earlier this month. While the trip is largely personal, he will meet with Edna Kenny, the prime minister of Ireland. He also plans to meet with labor officials and renewable energy experts in Germany, tour an auto plant in Munich and visit the Dachau concentration camp.

The governor’s office said Brown will cover his own costs. The governor and his wife arejoined by Brown’s sister, Kathleen Brown, California’s former state treasurer.

Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom leads California during Brown’s absence.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
